Alexander of Hales, apparently the first to introduce this elaborate articulation, divides partes into membra and articuli; Thomas in S. Th. divides partes into quaestiones and articuli. Commentaries upon the Sentences generally divide the partes into distinctiones, these being subdivided into quaestiones and articuli.
